Hédi Ben Abbès

Hedi Ben Abbes brings a rich and diversified experience that stretches from Academia to business and Politics. From March to August 2013, he has served as Senior Advisor to the President of the Republic of Tunisia in charge of Foreign Policy. Prior to this, he held the Cabinet-level position of Secretary of State for foreign affairs in charge of the Americas and Asia from December 2011 to March 2013. In this position, he strived to consolidate and diversify Tunisia’s foreign relations with countries of the Americas and Asia and initiated numerous actions aiming to create a better environment for Tunisia’s Transition to Democracy and for business such as the idea for the creation of the “BMENA Women’s Enterprise Fund” at the 2012 G-8- BMENA Forum For the Future held in Tunis in December, 2012.
His business experience includes a very successful four-year-tenure (2008-2011) as the CEO of COMATRA France, a company based in Marseille, France and specialized in logistics and international transportation. From 2002 to 2011, he held the position of Legal Advisor to COMATRAL, the parent company based in Tunis.

He currently holds the position of general manager for three different companies in the field of Healthcare Services (Maghreb Healthcare services, General Maghreb Services, Maghreb Dental Care).

He is founder and president of Tunisian-Japanese Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCITJ).

Hedi Ben Abbes has a longstanding experience as university professor.  From 1990 to 2011, he taught English Literature and International Relations both in Canada (University of Toronto) and France (University Franche-Comté). During this period, he conducted various studies ranging from the Powers and Limits of the UN Security Council in the First Gulf War to the prerogatives and limits of the World Labor Organization when it comes to child labor.

Hedi Ben Abbes holds a Doctorate in English Literature from the University of Nice, France (1990) and a Master’s Degree in Political Science and Law from the Bourgogne University in France (2002).        

Hedi Ben Abbes holds the title of Commandeur de la Légion d’honneur (France), Commandeur de l’Ordre de Léopold II (France), Kentucky Colonel (USA).
